427 PhD Seats Remain Vacant at RGPV; Only 218 Students Selected from 645 Seats

Bhopal: A large number of PhD seats have remained vacant at Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), raising concerns about declining participation in doctoral programs. According to official information, the university conducted an offline PhD entrance examination to fill 645 research seats across 17 branches in seven colleges, but only 218 candidates were selected, leaving 427 seats unfilled.

The entrance examination was held in December 2024, for which more than 1,100 admit cards were issued, yet the actual number of successful candidates remained low. Due to the shortage of eligible applicants, the university now plans to conduct another entrance examination after six months to fill the remaining vacant seats.

University officials have confirmed that interviews for the selected 218 candidates will begin soon, while preparations are underway for the next admission cycle. Reports also indicate that strict security measures were implemented during the entrance test to ensure transparency and prevent irregularities.

The large number of vacant seats has sparked discussion within the academic community regarding reduced student participation, entrance exam performance, and challenges in attracting research scholars. Education experts suggest that improved awareness, flexible admission policies, and enhanced research opportunities may help increase enrollment in doctoral programs.
